When he arrived in Portugal he did not immediately sign a contract, he only gave his word that he would play with Sporting and he didn't want to discuss the financial aspects of his contract.

Little time passed when he was offered a contract to play with Porto. However, Peyroteo did not accept the invitation, because he already committed verbally to play for Sporting and the money was no concern of his.

To prevent more risks of him going somewhere else, the controllers of Sporting had given a contract for him to sign, for two years

His signed with Sporting in 1937, and in his first game with the club, which occurred on the 12th of September, 1937, against Benfica (5-3), he scored 2 goals.
He trained with Sporting two times per week with the team, but practiced on his own another 2 days to practice his shot.

In 1945, he got a red card in one particular Benfica-Sporting game, for the first and only time. This happened because a player of the rival club insulted him. Peyroteo answered in a bad way, citing the reason being to honor his mother.

At the national level, for the Portugal National Team, he played in 20 international matches.

Peyroteo finished his career of futebol in 1949. The last game that officially played occurred on October 5.

"When I enter in field, I go all out, but, after a half dozen kicks of the ball, an unexplained phenomena takes possession of me."

On November 28, 1978, during a game of veterans played in Barcelona, Peyroteo suffered an injury that ended up to be fatal. In an operation on his Achilles Tendon, he suffered a cardiac attack. Furthermore, he ended up having to amputate his leg. He passed away shortly after.
