Belenenses Hit Five Past Setúbal

Belenenses were comfortable winners over Vitória de Setúbal in a 5-0 show that saw Weldon and João Paulo score a brace each.

Vitória de Setúbal were coming off of a midweek defeat to FC Porto for the Portuguese Cup and needed a good result to get back on track and stay fifth in the table. However, this game proved to be a nightmare for Carlos Carvalhal's men.

Belenenses started out strongly, willing to take the lead as soon as possible, leaving Setúbal with counter-attack as the only option to try to bother the hosts, but that never happened.

In the 19th minute, Weldon received a ball in the middle, and amazingly moved past three players and made no mistake with a low finish.

Eight minutes later, Belenenses extended their lead. A free-kick from 30 yards out found Hugo Alcântara, who headed over to Weldon. The Brazilian striker nodded the ball into the top right corner leaving Eduardo with no chance.

Vitória could have scored in the 32nd minute, but Robson's shot went wide after a cross from Cláudio Pitbull. It took only one minute for Belenenses to react. Roncato went past Eduardo, and when he was about to score, a handball by Janício prevented the 3-0. However, the referee saw it and awarded a penalty which José Pedro did not waste.

There was little for Setúbal to do, and Belenenses simply continued controlling the game in the second-half. In the 86th minute, Cândido Costa swung in a cross from the right, and João Paulo, who had come in for Roncatto, scored in a superb overhead kick effort.

In the 93rd minute, João Paulo would find the net again. Zé Pedro's through ball left João Paulo isolated, who placed the ball past the keeper to score his second of the night.

Belenenses are now in fifth place with 42 points and will visit fourth-placed Benfica on Saturday.
