Benfica Land Jorge Ribeiro

Portuguese giants Benfica have signed defender Jorge Ribeiro from Boavista on a free transfer...

Hot on the heels of the signing of Ruben Amorim from Os Belenenses, Benfica have landed Ribeiro on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old is set for his second spell with Benfica, having been a member of the club's youth squad and an occasional first team player between 1999 and 2002.

From there he enjoyed a series of loan spells elsewhere before moving on to Dynamo Moscow.

Eventually he found himself with Boavista on a one-year deal, and he appears to have found his form with the Black Panthers.

This prompted Benfica to re-sign the dimunitive left-back, possibly as a replacement for Leo, whose contract at the Estádio da Luz ends this summer.

Ribeiro, who is Maniche's brother, has been capped eight times for Portugal.
