Pompey Considering Luisão Move

Portsmouth are reported to be interested in capturing Benfica central defender Luisão and are weighing up making a move in the summer.

The Brazilian international has been a first-team regular since joining from Cruzeiro in 2003, but Benfica seem interested in cashing in his sale for summer reinforcements.

Pompey allegedly dispatched some scouts to watch the 27-year-old in action against Porto earlier this month, and they are thought to have sent back favourable reports on his performance.

Although Luisão's release clause is set at €20 million, Benfica are reportedly interested in negotiating the player for a smaller fee if necessary.

And while the player is said to be happy with life in the Portuguese capital, he has not ruled out a taking on a new challenge after five years of play at Benfica.

"Right now I am only thinking about the games that are left to play," he said. "Then, if someone from the Benfica board comes to talk to me, we will see."
