Ronaldo Set For Another New United Deal

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is close to putting pen-to-paper on a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2014, according to reports.

The Portuguese international had recently agreed a contract extension with the Red Devils which runs through to 2012, but Real Madrid's recent interest seems to have sparked a reaction and another offer has been with improved terms.

AS report that Ronaldo's extension will keep him at Manchester United until 2014, and that he will be rewarded with €9.3 million-per-season, a €4.7 million raise when compared to the current contract.

The deal is expected to be sealed in the next few days as both the player and United are still discussing the latest details regarding the player's image rights.

Contract Clauses

Ronaldo's proposed new deal has two clauses in it which will make it very hard for other clubs to try to lure him into their ranks.

The 23-year-old's release clause is now set at £100 million (€127 million) in an attempt to try to fend off other clubs as such a financial package has never been offered in football history.

Another clause in Ronaldo's new contract is an anti-Webster ruling clause. According to Article 17 of Fifa's transfer regulations, players who sign contracts when aged under 28 are able to unilaterally break those contracts after just three years.

To prevent Ronaldo from doing that, Manchester United have stipulated that he will have to pay a large sum if he ever decides to unilaterally break his new deal with The Red Devils.
