Benfica Search Manchester For New Coach

Portuguese television channel TVI claims that Benfica chairman Luís Filipe Vieira and would-be director Rui Costa have travelled to Manchester to find a new coach for the team. Who could it be?

The Portuguese club have been looking for a new manager for the squad since José Antonio Camacho resigned in March following a series of bad results.

Chairman Luís Filipe Vieira and Rui Costa - who will formally become the club's sporting director at the end of the season - are allegedly in Manchester to begin negotiations with the future coach.

TVI did not reveal who Benfica will hold talks with, but two names from Manchester have been linked with the managerial post at Estádio da Luz - Sven-Göran Eriksson and Carlos Queiroz.

The Swedish tactician was apparently told by Thaksin Shinawatra that his services will no longer be required after this season. Nonetheless, his impressive wage demands are reportedly a problem for the Portuguese outfit.

Queiroz, meanwhile, has never ruled out a return to Lisbon, but with Alex Ferguson having reportedly named him as his successor at Old Trafford, chances are that he will prefer staying with the Scottish veteran.
