Boavista Demoted; Porto President Suspended

The Portuguese League's Disciplinary Committee has confirmed the verdict in the 'Apito Final' (Final Whistle) case...

The Disciplinary Committee have decided to send historical club Boavista to the second division for exercising coercion against the referee on three games during the 2003/04 season - against Benfica, Belenenses and Académica Coimbra. Boavista will also be fined €180,000.

FC Porto have been docked six points from this same campaign and will be fined €150,000 for attempted corruption, while their president, Pinto da Costa, has been suspended for a period of 2 years and will receive a €10,000 fine. The six point deduction still see them as champions for that year.

Former Boavista chairman João Loureiro has been sentenced a four-year suspension and will received a fine of €25,000.

União de Leiria have seen three points from the current campaign being removed and their president, João Bartolomeu, has been suspended for a period of one year.

While the club will have to pay a fee of €40,000, Bartolomeu will be fined just €4,000. The Leiria-based club were found guilty of attempted corruption during a game against Belenenses for the 2003/04 season.

Moreover, six referees and one assistant referee have been suspended as follows:

Martins dos Santos (referee) - Suspended for three years.

Augusto Duarte (referee) - Suspended for six years.

Jacinto Paixão (referee) - Suspended for four years.

José Chilrito (referee) - Suspended for two and a half years.

Manuel Quadrado (referee) - Suspended for two and a half years.

Marinho Santos Silva (assistant referee) - Suspended for two and a half years.
