Chalana: Second Place Is Still Possible

Benfica coach Fernando Chalana played down the poor display and result against Estrela da Amadora, saying that reaching the second place is still possible.

The Eagles travelled to Amadora in a must-win situation, as anything other than all three points could put in jeopardy their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

Nonetheless, that seemed to have had little or none importance to the Benfica squad, whose lack of finishing inspiration against Estrela resulted in a goalless match.

"I did not expect this result," Chalana said after the game. "Neither did the the players, the spectators, or the associates.

"The team started the game a bit nervous, during the second-half we had plenty of opportunities to score, but the ball never entered. We lacked attitude during the first-half."

"With the first place out of reach, what pleases me is the second place. We have to fight with our heads up, we will fight until the end. Boavista can surprise Sporting at Alvalade, why not?"

Benfica are in fourth place with 49 points, three behind Sporting, and will welcome the surprise package of the season, Vitória de Setúbal, in the decisive round of play.
