SOURCE: Inter Milan winger Luis Figo had some kind words for fellow Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo when he spoke to the Spanish press at the opening a 'Sport Zone' store in Madrid on Friday. Figo is currently recovering from injury and has taken the opportunity to return to the Spanish capital, where he enjoyed five successful years with Real Madrid at the turn of the century. Whilst appearing at the opening of the first 'Sport Zone' store in Spain, Figo was questioned on a variety of subjects, starting with his experiences since joining Inter Milan. "I am very content because I was welcomed with open arms and the club has been able to break their negative cycle of results since I arrived. We have given joy to the supporters after many years without winning the Scudetto," he explained. "The bad thing is that in this last year I would have liked to play more often... but I have been injured and have been unable to find consistency." Problems At Barça Having played for both Real Madrid and Barcelona during his time in Spain, Figo was asked whether he felt the current situation at the Camp Nou was similar to the final years of the 'Galacticos' era at Madrid. "I don't see that they are alike, because the transfer system employed by Madrid sometimes failed to take into account the sporting side and that hurt our football," he affirmed. "Barcelona had a bad year as far as results, but they reached the Champions League semi-finals. Their season could have gone either way, but things started to go badly for them from March onwards." Cristiano Ronaldo With Figo having retired from international football following the 2006 World Cup, he was questioned as to whether he sees Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo as his successor in the Portuguese national team. "Successor? He has quality to do whatever he wants and mark his own time," Figo asserted. "I believe that if I had the quality he does then I wouldn't have had to work so hard. He is fast, intelligent in possession, strong, technically perfect... he is very complete." Figo indicated
that he cannot see Ronaldo leaving Manchester United any time soon and
ended the interview by suggesting that he would like another year at Inter
Milan before he hangs up his boots.
